Indecision. Since sharing with you my travel wishlist, I've thought a little bit more about what pair of shoes I would like to buy. While I am picking up a pair of Charlotte Olympia kitty flats, I'd like something that is a little more classic, that I could potentially wear every day in the workplace if need be. As designer options are pretty limited in New Zealand, especially if I want to avoid paying high duties and taxes on shoes bought online, I figure this is my chance to pick up something special.

I've narrowed it down to four choices: Celine sandals with a metallic heel in tan, Valentino rockstud shoes (flat or kitten heel) in either the blush or black, Salvatore Ferragamo black patent varina's with a low heel or a pair of Chanel two tone ballet flats.

In the interest of not going overboard on my purchases, I'm resigned to only buying one. Which I suppose is where I am having trouble. They each have their merits, although the responsible and prudent voice in my head is telling me to get flat shoes, rather than the heels that I have been so keen on for some time now. Which would you choose?

left to right: Miu Miu python pumps, Mulberry braided boots, Marni sandals, Acne glossed-leather sandals, Stella McCartney stud-heel boots, Missoni sandals

If I weren't heading to Europe, I imagine that my indecisiveness would fall to which shoes to purchase from the Net-a-Porter sale. The Global sale started earlier this week, and above are some of my picks. Are you going to buy anything?

  1. Hmmm, they are all gorgeous, but I personally would get the chanel flats. So classic and chic!

  3. Definitely the chanel flats, although the first ones are amazing as well...but like you said, it's probably better to go with the lower, more comfortable pair.

  6. Oh this is not going to be helpful at all. But I agree with many people above and choosing something timesless which is why I wouldn't choose the 1st or 3rd even though they're both gorgeous. But for the price, it's best to go with a longterm investment. I personally love the Ferragamo's. I feel like Ferragamo might not be as fun of a name to say as Chanel or Valentino but the look is just so classic.

  8. The Celine and Valentino's are so damn sexy! I do not miss shopping online in NZ - I've paid over $200 in duty and taxes for a single pair of shoes - not cool at all. Good luck! xx

  9. Even though I'm a huge fan of flats, my pick are the Celine. I think because I'm not a fan of logos on things, and also I think you could get just as good quality ballet flats for a lower price (e.g. I find my Mimco loafers to be excellent quality). The Valentino are very cool, but not an everyday shoe in my opinion. I'll look forward to reading about your exciting overseas purchases ;)

  10. Neither of the heels are too high so go with your instinct! Personally I'm keen on the Celine sandals with the Valentino's a close second.

  11. Ok..... I held a pair of Chanel two tone flats in my hands whilst shopping in NYC... after a few moments thoughts I put them down and walked away. Call me stupid, but I figured that paying $850 (or however much they were, I forget) for a pair BALLET FLATS that I will run around in day to day and bash around was ridiculous. I really think that ballet flats are the type of shoe that you don't want to be precious about, but I can't help but feel that if I paid close to a grand for a pair I would be. Settle for the Ferragamos (which you can hopefully pick up on sale for $350 or so) and then splurge on a pair of the studded Valentinos which are more of a statement shoe and they are definitely worth being precious about. Do I make any sense at all?

  13. Great choices! I have recently been obsessed with the same Salvatore Ferragamo shoes! It might be because I have been watching back to back Mad Men episodes and they kind of remind me of that era... They are simply timeless! Same goes for the Chanel flats.

So excited to see what you end up with! Too bad you're not stopping by Melbourne on your way!

  14. OH gawd we've had this chat and wow I admire your determination to pick one. Ranking them in order would go like this (just my 2centz) Chanel, Ferragamo, Valentino then Celine...

The heels are a different story though and I'd probably nudge you towards the Miu Miu python as I remember you wanted something similar from Gucci (?) . AHH decisions. I know whatever you get, you'll make the right choice!

  15. Who doesn't love a Chanel flat? Although I'm completely in love with those studded Valentino's they're so pretty xxx

  16. ohhhh tough choice! if it were me I'd go with the valentinos just because I'm utterly obsessed with them!

the ferragamos are a safe choice, I've lived in mine for the past 2 years, especially to work, and they're perfect with everything xx

  18. I have the chanels, ferragamos and the valentinos that you want :) from my experience with these shoes I reckon you should probably go for the Chanel's because they're the most classic. I love love love my Valentino rockstuds (i have the kitten heel version) and would def recommend them but you can only wear them with cropped pants and shorts/dresses, can't really wear them with longer pants/jeans? Ferragamo's are good probably more so in the calf leather over the patent because of comfort.
    Hope that helps! :)

  29. Ahh if only you could get them all!! Love your selection but oh, I can just imagine how hard it would be to choose one. If I had to pick one from your selection though, I'd go for the Valentino pair, just because I can't imagine anything they wouldn't look amazing with (dressy or casual) xx
