Karen Walker dress, blazer, belt and rings; Pointer loafers; Triwa watch

Karen Walker had it so right, when she stated that for her, navy was the fundamental neutral. As the years have progressed, I've noticed myself shying away from a wardrobe that once consisted of too much black (although working in an industry where it was necessary was a likely catalyst for that trend), to one where navy is the dominant dark tone. It's incredible the things that you learn about your style and preferences when overhauling your wardrobe. I managed to identify that navy, blush, and light greys make up the base of my wardrobe, with complementing colours scattered in-between.

If you didn't manage to catch it on twitter the other week, the little black and brown tabby striped kitten pictured above is Max, who was the most loveliest of birthday surprises.

  1. Love your watch!

And I should probably do that too: Slowly step away from a too-much-black wardrobe. :) But I still can't help it!

    Max is a cutie!

  3. What a cute little cat! How old is he? Is he pure bred?

For some reason I struggle with navy but not black. Although I know there are many tones of black out there - my discerning eye always picks the things in the right 'shade' of black. With navy however, I end up with blueish, greyish, blackish and greenish navies - none of which go together. I often end up pairing the 'navy' item with black but then depending on the tone of navy, not all of it goes super with black either ... agh how do you do it?!

  5. I'm a navy girl too. I have hardly any black in my wardrobe but lots of navy, especially in winter. Gorgeous outfit by the way. The navy blazer + navy loafers reminds me exactly of my autumn/ winter style.

  13. This dress is beautiful and the belt adds so much to it! Lovely outfit. I've also been stepping away from wearing black but I fint it much harder than expected. I guess black is a very convenient colour in many ways and old habits sure die hard.
